A huge thank you to everyone who took part in the annual Swimarathon event, Thornbury’s biggest annual fundraiser.
The Thornbury Leisure Centre hosted the event and we had a full house on Friday with 34 teams swimming their hearts out.
The Panache Steel Band provided the musical accompaniment creating a real fun event.
The final amount raised won’t be known for a few days whilst the remaining donations are collected but we expect the total to be well over £17,000. This will enable us to continue helping those in need in our area. Thank you to everyone who donated to the swim teams.
We were delighted that Mayor, James Murray opened the event and kindly swam the first length.
Representatives of the two principal charities this year were also present; Jill Davis from Thornbury and District Stroke Support group and Hannah Earle from Friends of Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre joined Thornbury Rotary President Mark Wilkinson.
Rotary is about fun, friendship, fundraising and philanthropy.
